Does God Want Our Prayers? (part II)

My entire life, when I prayed for something. I always ended with, if it’s Your (God’s) Will. So, basically I was always saying “I want this to happen, but if it’s not what You (God) want for me then I defer to your decision.” However, while praying for something to happen, I would pursue all actions to try to make it happen. Then if it did happen I’d think it was “fate” and part of God’s plan for me. If it didn’t happen I chalk it up to not being the right path for my plan.

So, basically, I’ve never believed that prayer can change God’s mind. That’s also why I don’t pray for things at anymore. Even when my daughter died 2 years ago. My prayer was “take her if it’s time.” Obviously I was sad but no amount of prayer was going to change God’s mind. It was her time.

Thank you is not said enough. In the last 5 years or so, mine have become all thank you prayers, and I don’t ask for anything. Most of my life was asking for stuff. However, as I mentioned above, my asks were always foot noted with “if it’s Your Will.” Most people don’t add that.

So, whether we have total free will, partial free will or no free will, God doesn’t need or want our prayer requests. A thank you – for everyone and everything in your life- every once in awhile is a nice thing to do, in my opinion. But no amount of prayer, petition and persistence will change God’s mind. Things happen per his plan, or per his “no plan” system. Either way praying for things is useless. If you pray it should only be a thank you prayer.
